My 40 Week Bump Update

IMG_1386
“Your baby is ready to be delivered and is measuring around 50cm in length and will weigh between 6-8 lbs. Your baby’s vision at birth will have developed enough to see around 2.5cm so they won’t be able to see much of your face at birth, they will however be able to recognise the sound of your voice and your partner’s.”

How far along: 40 weeks. Today is my due date…but I am still pregnant!

Days until due date: 0 days

My bump: Definitely dropped. At my last midwife appointment they said the head was 3/5 engaged so things are definitely moving in the right direction.

Weight changes: Pre-pregnancy = 8stone 4lbs. Today = 9stone 4.2lbs (+14.2lbs).

Stretch marks? No stretch marks whatsoever but my tummy has been feeling quite itchy recently so I’m being careful not to scratch too much and keep up with my daily bump-moisturising regime.

Cravings: Icy cold orange juice.

Sleep: Feeling a little more uncomfortable now as I try to get to sleep. When I lie on my side I seem to trap a nerve that leaves my whole side numb with a shooting pain so I have to lie on my back to begin with to try and get any shut-eye.

Symptoms: No further symptoms but still suffering with my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome but I have been reassured this will go soon after I’ve given birth.

Labour signs: Nothing yet apart from feeling my bump has dropped quite a bit which has alleviated my heartburn no end. Yay!

Best and worst moment this week: On Friday I was sent for a growth scan at the hospital as my bump was measuring a little bit under the ‘norm’ line so they just wanted to check everything was ok and the little babe was growing well. Thankfully baby Wilson is absolutely fine and beautifully in proportion and nutritionally well fed and growing very well. They predicted he/she is around 6lbs at the moment but the consultant had no concerns – “tiny mum, tiny baby” was her evaluation so I am not concerned and feel relieved to know that I won’t be pushing out a ten pounder! It was lovely seeing baby again on the screen and the scan also showed us that our little one has a very full head of hair. How cute! πŸ™‚

Miss anything? Prosecco. Honestly so excited to have a small glass of bubbles once baby is here! πŸ™‚

Maternity clothes: Still just living in H&M maternity leggings and basic ‘normal’ stretchy tops. I only ended up buying 3-4 maternity pieces and so pleased I didn’t have go crazy and completely revamp my wardrobe as they certainly don’t scream glamour!

Movement: Lots and lots of wiggles, pokes and prods.

Gender: Unknown and we aren’t going to find out either. I think there are so few genuine surprises left in life I couldn’t think of anything better than letting this baby be one of them. I plan for Rob to be the one who reveals to me what we’ve had (if he can see through the tears!) – a little girl or a little boy.

Belly button in/out: Ever so slightly popped out.

Wedding Rings on/off: Off due to my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Mood: Relaxed that I have finally finished all my nesting and our house is pretty much ready to welcome our newborn. I just feel a bit impatient now and want to meet our little one now!

Looking forward to: Having this baby! Could this be my last bump update?

Aww yay congratulations for hitting your due date! You look far too good for being 40 weeks pregnant! by my due date I was the size of a house and hadn't done my hair or makeup in weeks lol πŸ™‚

Don't worry at all over sizes, I was told I would have a 10lber (he was 8lbs) and my lovely bestie was told she would be lucky to have a 6lb baby (she measured 33cm at 40 weeks) and had a 8.3lb baby! its all guesswork, and the size really doesn't matter as long as baby is healthy!

From your size i'm guessing a girl! hopefully the next update you have will be a baby one! πŸ™‚

    Nice update.
The measuring thing is unrelevent. Tiny mum tiny baby means nothing and their weight predication and size of baby are norally way out. I was told I was extremely big for how far along I was and my baby at 35 weeks weighed over 8lbs. Well I gave birth at 39 weeks and Liv was 7lb exactly! Hope everything goes well for the birth and your new addition. X
