When I was approached over a year ago by Illamasqua to be part of this exciting collaboration project it all seemed pretty surreal. As a brand that was spectacularly spawned from the power of social media and the influence of beauty bloggers alike, they wanted to celebrate this online partnership by inviting four bloggers to create their very own collection. This #creators collection not only embraces this unique social unity between brand and blogger but also celebrates five years of Illamasqua’s existence; five years of exciting launches, outstanding imagery and a fresh vibe on the beauty scene.
Over the last year I have had the privilege to be involved with the whole process of creating my product, from the vision, development, promotion and creative narrative to really ensure my final lipgloss was wholeheartedly my own creation. From photo shoots to meticulously studying test samples, it was a refreshing experience that highlighted the fun and frustrations that surround the developmental process of every new beauty collection. With the initial premise of dark stars and unknown galaxies, we were set to work to prepare a product that would fit this brief. My initial ideas were fuelled with the raw beauty of copper metal spiked with a futuristic flurry of iridescent specks to add a whole new dimension of colour to the gloss, to almost create a galaxy of colour within the product. I christened my product ‘Culminate’ because it represented the climax, the pinnacle of a year’s development as well as including a subtle reference to my inspiration from the very beginning, copper’s chemical symbol, Cu. Culminate is metallic pink-copper lipgloss set to illuminate the lips with a rush of iridescence that can be worn alone or layered over another lipstick to illuminate and intensify the finish. I am wearing the gloss alone in my promotional image above so you can see it isn’t as daunting as it may appear in the tube.
It has been a long but inspiring journey and I am so proud to have been involved with Illamasqua and able to share my experience with some amazing, fellow online socialites – Yinka, Suzi and Munroe. This limited edition #Creators collection is available online and in stores from Monday 7th October, so only a few more days until I can see my lipgloss lit up in the social spotlight and I really can’t wait to hear what you think of this beauty collaboration.
