My experience at the Aveda Institute

Highlights and a treatment at the The Aveda Institute

The Aveda Institute on High Holborn is a breath of tranquility and calm away from the hustle and bright lights of Covent Garden and the fast pace of London that buzzes outside the impossibly high, skyline windows. I was kindly asked along to the Lifestyle Salon & Spa to have my hair coloured and treated whilst I sunk back in the sumptuous leather chairs enjoying a frothy hot chocolate and a copy of Harper’s Bazaar. My technician Jenny seemed to understand exactly where I was coming from when I explain I wanted to steer away from the ashy blonde and shadowy roots I was currently sporting and add some warmth and creamy tones to my hair, to brighten and lift the colour as much as possible. I didn’t want a solid, block colour applied so Jenny tirelessly separated, weaved, pull and painted my hair into what felt like 100 individual foils to really ensure the fresh colour was packed tightly and evenly distributed over my entire mop of deceivingly, thick hair.

As I sat back to patiently wait for my colour to develop I had the chance to soak up the atmosphere of the salon and play my favourite game of people-watching from the reflection of my mirror. Despite the initial air of serenity that greets you at the door, The Aveda Institute is a busy, lively salon that offers an extensive list of services for all your beauty needs from facials, waxing, massages, body treatments and makeovers as well as a chance to just kick back and unwind in the adjoining Le Pain Quotidien.

Many magazines later and I was ushered to the basin complete with foot rest (always a blessing when you have been sitting upright for three hours!) to have my colour washed out, a toner applied to develop the ideal colour followed by a nourishing treatment to restore some moisture and health to my hair. I have always loved the aroma of Aveda products ever since I was introduced to them by my hairdressers year ago, so it was a lovely treat laying back in a cloud of zesty lemon, sandalwood and coconut whilst my hair was pampered and head massaged. Back at the wall of mirrors and I asked for a bouncy, wavy blow dry which is something I can never achieve myself at home. I loved the finished style and the new, creamy blonde colour that was unveiled before me and was equally elated that it decided to stop raining outside just as I left the salon!

The Aveda Institue is a hub of holistic health and wellbeing plonked right in the heart of London and is a wonderful place to visit and unwind for a few hours. I would definitely recommend a colour or treatment there, and the hot chocolates are pretty amazing too!
