Topshop lipstick in Depth £8

Do you ever have those moments following a rather spontaneous purchase where you just shake your head in confusion and think, “what was I thinking?!” This happened to me last week when I somehow came home with this new lipstick from the Topshop makeup range. I am completely digging the dark berry lip trend and wanted to expand my collection a little so made a beeline for this rather morbid blackened-burgundy lipstick called Depth. I swatched it in store and foolishly thought it looks quite nice, and that the purple tones made it reasonably wearable, but when I got home and proceeded to apply it…it became very clear that this was not the case! Now I am quite daring when it comes to lipstick but quite frankly I looked odd. Very odd. And toothless!

I really really wish I could have pulled off this statement lipstick because it is such an incredible, unique colour with a rich glossy finish at a purse-friendly price. And I just hope in time I might find a reason or a place to summon it from the makeup archives, but for now that is where it is heading! It is definitely a lipstick that calls out for an accompanying lip liner, which evidently I didn’t have, and a very brave disposition. I think it is just one step too far for me, but I want someone to tell me that they have bought this too and love it? Anybody?

That's such a gorgeous colour! I would actually wear that on a night out.

it is beautiful but there's no point in letting it wear you if it makes you uncomfortable if that makes any sense. As much as i admire it I know I couldn't pull it off!

Oh dear – not the best colour that topshop has produced; the pigment and quality is a bit off isn't it? You can pull out of the archive for Halloween perhaps 😉

Love their peachy nude pencil tho.

Looks stunning! You could try layering it over a bright red or hot pink so it not as dark & create some lovely ombre type lips!

I think your brave for giving it a try. I think it is a lovely colour but like you said a hard one to pull off. Maybe you could wear it more as stain? x

This lippy is AMAZING – my best friend wears it and it looks incredible. So glam! I think because you're blonde and have the right skin tone/general face for it, you can definitely pull it off with minimal eye makeup. The kind of lipstick that could take any outfit from day to night with the aid of some killer heels!

Do let us know if you ever wear it, it's amazing!

The colour is really gorgeous, I love the glossy finish. I totally understand your trepidation though! I get nervous wearing normal dark berry shades, but I do think this looks lovely on you. If you're brave and wear it out I think all you'll get are compliments! x

Personally I think the colour is fab! Maybe dark but I love dark, dark lips with hardly any eye makeup, just a touch of mascara. I did buy Orb by MAC recently though and felt the same about that – i think dark lipstick can be a shock! It always looks better with a good tan too, thats definitely where I'm going wrong anyway!

I bought a very similar color from Maybelline, and used it last night for the firts time! Mine is a matte color, so it doesn´t show off as much.

    Love your blog!!

This colour is beautiful! I've tried Topshop lipsticks a couple of years ago though and found them really drying :/ This looks moisturising though, so I may have to give them a go again!
