MAC have collaborated with the legendary Marcel Wanders to give us a new, limited edition colour collection, rich with sophisticated shades and attention-grabbing aesthetics. Marcel Wanders is a dutch designer, masterminding the production of many industrial, architectural and interior projects and considered to be the ‘Lady Gaga of the design world”. He is commended for creating exuberant and contemporary designs and has now lent his creative license to MAC, conjuring up a dynamic collection of products all encased with antique-meets-modern cult packaging and a sleek chrome finish.
MAC & Marcel Wanders lipgloss – Julia* £16.50
(light blue-pink with pearl, frost)
This limited edition lipgloss gave me such high hopes when I saw it in the tube. The gorgeous iridescent peachy-pink hue with speckles of gold shimmer looked so pretty, but unfortunately once it was applied, it left me with a disappointedly barely-there colour. The shimmer is still very evident, and would be lovely if applied over a stronger lip colour, but on its own it isn’t anything special. Yes the packaging looks very swish and striking, but is deceivingly lightweight and certainly doesn’t maintain its sleek, fingerprint-free finish for long! With the lip-trembling price of this product, I definitely expected something a bit more remarkable.
MAC & Marcel Wanders lipstick – Inez* £17.50
(plum with gold pearl, frost)
With a similar story as the lipglosses, this collaboration sees the launch of four new limited edition lipsticks, all with frost finishes and a much higher price point that regular MAC lipsticks. So if you are not a frost fan, or you don’t believe the ‘chrome’ packaging justifies the few pounds price hike, then these lipsticks won’t be for you. (Although you are actually getting 50% more product with these lipsticks!) I think Inez is a gorgeous shade, offering a rich plum colour laced with golden flecks, leaving a metallic-like sheen on the lips. You have to tread cautiously with frost lipsticks as some tend to look a bit dated, but I think this one works just perfectly. I think it is quite a unique shade, and has totally won me over.
The MAC & Marcel Wanders collection is out now, available in stores and online. What are your thoughts? Have you picked up anything from this new collection?
